You list your semi-trailer with its registration document and photos. Verified dealers and exporters then submit binding bids, and you decide whether to accept one. The purchase contract, payment and collection run through truckoo – not through the dealer. For you the sale is free of charge, even after you accept.
Through truckoo you sell semi-trailers of every design: curtainsiders, mega and low liners, refrigerated semi-trailers, tipper semi-trailers, container chassis, tanker and silo trailers, walking floor semi-trailers and low loaders. With a semi-trailer, the body type determines the circle of buyers more strongly than the year of manufacture.
The body type decides the market. A twelve-year-old tipper semi-trailer in good condition finds a buyer faster than a five-year-old standard semi-trailer with no distinguishing feature.
The sale consists of four steps: list, receive bids, accept a bid, hand over. Until you accept a bid you can cancel at any time at no cost – and even after that you pay nothing.
Photograph the registration certificate, enter the mileage, take six mandatory photos. The listing process guides you through each photo. Around ten minutes.
Every bid is binding and valid for a fixed period. You see all bids side by side, not just the highest.
If none suits, you don’t sell – at no cost. Once accepted, there is no renegotiation.
Handover at a partner workshop or collection from your premises. Then payout by instant bank transfer. Deregistration can be added as an optional service (from 49 €).
Four factors determine the price: the body type and the market it serves, the condition of frame, floor and tarpaulin, the axle configuration including any lift axle, and, on refrigerated semi-trailers, the operating hours of the cooling unit. The mileage of the towing vehicle plays no part.
With semi-trailers, the type of build determines who bids at all. Walking floor and moving floor semi-trailers go to waste management and biomass logistics, tipper semi-trailers to construction and agriculture, refrigerated semi-trailers to food and pharmaceutical hauliers, container chassis to port and terminal operators. These markets move independently of one another – one segment can be booming while another stands still.
On a semi-trailer, the frame is what the engine is on a truck: if it is distorted or rusted through, the vehicle is only a source of parts. Next come the floor and the side boards, on curtainsiders the curtain together with the roof bows and stanchions, on tippers the leak-tightness of the body. A dealer can judge these items from photos – which is why good shots pay off here more than anywhere else.
The number of axles, the axle make, the lift axle and the condition of the braking system determine the field of use. Disc brakes have the advantage over drum brakes, and a lift axle saves the buyer money in operation. On heavy-duty semi-trailers, axle loads and steerability count as well. A valid safety inspection report makes the vehicle immediately usable for European buyers.
On refrigerated semi-trailers, the operating hours of the unit say more than the year of manufacture of the trailer. The make, the last service and the refrigerant belong in the vehicle details, as does the leak-tightness of the box. The same applies to additional equipment on other types of build: load securing systems, double-deck loading, roller tracks or hydraulic equipment increase the value if they are documented as working.
On semi-trailers, listing prices are especially useless, because two vehicles with the same designation can be completely different: number of axles, lift axle, floor thickness, tarpaulin condition and, on refrigerated semi-trailers, the operating hours of the cooling unit matter more to the price than the year of manufacture. What appears in an advertisement is also a selling price. Five items lie between it and the purchase:
Because the body type determines the market, a different circle of dealers bids on a refrigerated semi-trailer than on a tipper. The difference with truckoo is not that these items disappear, but that all suitable dealers calculate at the same time and you see the best result instead of a single one.
Condition rules out no semi-trailer, but it shifts the circle of buyers. Frame and floor determine the remaining service life and thus whether a semi-trailer is resold or stripped for parts. Both are markets with their own buyers – they simply pay differently. So photograph precisely those spots you would rather leave out.
An expired roadworthiness test or safety inspection is no obstacle. The buyer factors it in and arranges a temporary licence plate for the transfer.
Rust on the frame and a floor that has broken through are the most common reasons for a substantial deduction, because they limit the remaining service life. The semi-trailer can still be sold – then usually to buyers who repair or dismantle. Photograph the affected areas instead of leaving them out.
Twenty years is no bar for a semi-trailer. Unlike a rigid truck, there is no measure of wear that necessarily rises with time – an old tipper semi-trailer in good condition is more sought after than a young standard semi-trailer with nothing special about it.
Damaged semi-trailers, and ones that can no longer be rolled, can be sold too. In these cases the buyer arranges the transport; this is clarified before the bid is placed, not afterwards.
A curtain with lettering on it does not have to be replaced – the buyer takes care of that. A damaged curtain, on the other hand, you should state, because replacing a curtain costs a considerable amount depending on the type of build and would otherwise be deducted from the bid afterwards.
An ongoing contract does not stand in the way of a sale. truckoo obtains the settlement amount from the bank or the leasing company and offsets it against the purchase price – you receive the difference.
On truckoo, 1500+ verified dealers and exporters from 35+ countries submit bids. Every buyer is checked for proof of trade registration, VAT identification number and solvency before being approved. You yourself have a contract with none of them – your contractual partner is truckoo.
The difference from a classified ad is the number of calculations. With a semi-trailer it also counts that the body types serve separate markets: whoever trades in refrigerated semi-trailers will not bid on a tipper in the first place. Through truckoo all suitable dealers see your vehicle at the same time – you do not need to know who specialises in your body type.
For sellers, selling through truckoo is free of charge – completely and permanently. There is no listing fee, no brokerage commission and no deduction from the purchase price, not even when you accept a bid and actually sell.
As a rule, a few working days after the vehicle details are complete. With special designs it can take a little longer, because the pool of buyers is smaller – but the bids there are often higher than sellers expect.
No. You see every bid and decide freely. If you accept none, no costs arise and the vehicle stays yours. There is no deadline by which you have to decide – only the individual bids are time-limited.
truckoo. The sales contract, the payment and the processing all run through truckoo, not through the dealer who bids. You have a single point of contact, even if something needs clarifying after the handover.
On the day of handover. As soon as the partner on site has confirmed that the vehicle, keys and documents have been handed over in full, truckoo pays out by instant bank transfer. You do not have to chase your money and you do not have to pay anything in advance.
Yes. Low-bed, walking floor, moving floor, silo and refrigerated semi-trailers as well as container chassis are sold through truckoo on a regular basis. With special designs the pool of buyers is smaller but more willing to pay – what matters is that the type of build, the number of axles and the equipment are recorded in full.
Registration certificate part I and part II, the most recent roadworthiness test or safety inspection report and, if available, the service book for the braking system. For refrigerated semi-trailers, the papers for the refrigeration unit and the latest service record belong with them – they are worth hard cash to the buyer.
On a low-loader. The buyer arranges and pays for the transport; this is clarified before the bid is placed, not afterwards. When entering the vehicle details, please state whether the semi-trailer can still be towed and whether the access is suitable for a low-loader.
Ten minutes to create the listing, then you decide at your own pace. For sellers the sale is free of charge – even when you do sell.
